Essential Skills for Dentists

Members of the general public often express surprise at the fact that it takes 5 years of intensive training to produce a professional whose remit is confined, (as they see it) to the teeth and the mouth. Within the profession, experienced dentists question the comprehensiveness of the hands-on training of newly qualified dentists as they embark on their Vocational Training. I feel this book will provide an appreciation of the scope and depth of the undergraduate dental curriculum, and leave the reader in no doubt about how comprehensive contemporary dental education and training is.

Being a clinical academic in one dental speciality, the editing of a book covering all aspects of dentistry was a challenge and a tremendous learning experience. It afforded an up-to-date insight into all disciplines and aspects of the delivery of professional dental care and the academic, clinical and attitudinal skills required of a competent dentist in the present era.

While the book is directed primarily at the undergraduate dental student and the newly qualified dentist, it is also designed to be of value to all those involved in delivering and assessing dental education. With input from multiple experts, the content is aligned closely with recent developments in clinical dentistry and in dental education in the UK and beyond.
