SurgeryI was not the top of my year - nowhere near. Too many facts, not enough brain. Then I made an interesting discovery - if I understood the "why", I could work enough answers out without having to learn sooo many facts (with little or no understanding). I never became top of the year (or even near it), but medicine became much more interesting and in many respects easier.
Strangely, it is this approach that is required once you become a practicing clinician. A good doctor understands the conditions under investigation and treatment - simply comparing a long list of facts to a patient's symptoms and signs does not lead to good medicine.
So why not learn medicine the way you will use it?
